Sree Narayana Guru Samadhi
Sivagiri – This is the place where Sree Narayana Guru’s tomb is located and place where guru was enlightened and attained salvation. The Samadhi (the final resting place) of the Guru here attracts thousands of devotees every year during the Sivagiri Pilgrimage days 30th December to 1st January.
The Sivagiri Mutt, built in 1904, is situated at the top of the Sivagiri hill near Varkala. Even decades after the guru’s Samadhi in 1928,Gurudevan’ssamadhi continues to be hronged by thousands of devotees, donned in yellow attire, from different parts of Kerala and outside.
The Sivagiri Mutt is also the headquarters of the Sree Narayana Dharma Sangham, an organization of his disciples and saints, established by GURU.
This place, in due course, developed into the site of the Sarada Temple, and guru established an architecture which was simple and different. For the first time in India, a temple with windows and ventilation was devised.The opening of this temple was uniquely marked by the inspirational ceremony of guest of hymns in praise of the mother Sarada. The Guru himself wrote “janani-navaratnaManjari” …… nine Gems in praise of the mother.”
Last days of SreeNarayana Guru
T. K Madhavan’s request a special meeting of S.N.D.P.Yogam was held in Nagampadam, Kottayam district, this was the last public function Gurudvan attended. In the meting Gurudvan distributes registration certificate for 108 S.N.D.P Branches. After the meeting Gurudevan was resting in Nagampadam Temple, his two devotees Mr. Vallabaserry Govindan Vaidyan and Mr. T. K. Krishnan approached Guru and presented the idea of Sivagiri Pilgrimage/Sivagiri Theerthadanam. Guru gave permissions.
Gurudevan was badly affected with blockage of urine due to prostate disorder., he was so tired and seems with bad body pain, from Nagampadam Gurudevan went to Vaikom Vellor mutt. Dr Rao was treatred him, but Gurudevan not get any relief. Dr Krishnan eminent doctor and great devotee of Gurusen send his son Dr. Raghavan to Gurudevan. Under his treatment Guru felt relief, Swami went to Aluva Advaitasramam through a boat from Vaikom to Ernakulam railway station.
Ernakulam railway station, the British ambassador visited him and arranged all facility to travel by tain. Gurudevan send Dr. Raghavan back because he felt relief.
Gurudevan’s Mahasamadhi
Again Gurudevan was suffered with pain. Dr Krishnan heared the news he brought Guru to Palakkat, Guru’s followers are rushing to see Gurudevan, the news spred evey where and all people are spoke about Guru’s disease. His condition was again become worse Dr. Krishnan brought Dr. Pandala eminent doctor and great scholar from Madras.
For better treatment both of them decided to take Swami to Madras. Swami came to Madras on February 10th 1928 and stayed in Dr. Komans house. His body was struggling with pain but hid face iseemains pleasant. Guru got better treatment from inide and outsise Kerala and Guru’s condition remains the same. He felt relief Gurudeva wants for Ayurveic treatment so Guru was brought to Palakkad Dr Krishnan and ayurvedic eminent scholars especially Kakkanad MamaVaidyar are treated Guru.
Guru wants to return back to Sivagiri, on the way thousands of people are crowded in railway station nd Gurudevan stayed in Kollam Dr M. N.N. Panickar and Dr. M. K Thampi got an oppurtunity tom treat Gurudevan.
In 1928 March 11 swami reached from Kollam to Varkala. Swami stayed in guest house of Sivagiri mutt and treated by Cholayil Mami Vaidyar , Pinavalli Krishnan VaidyarEminent Ayurvedic physicianThaikottu Divakaran Moose, Dr Panickar and Dr. Palpu.
May 28 Swami was brought to Thiruvanamthapuram for treatment. Swami stayed Mathu’s house. Dr Noble eminent physician from England and Dr. Samarwell are treated Gurudevan.
After treatment Swami came back to Sivagiri first week of June. Guru seems very tired but his face was pleasant and divine, divotees and dignities from variouds parts are rushing tovisit Gurudevan.
Last moments of Sree Narayana Gurudevan
Kanni 5 is the pleasant day, swami felt comfortable and disciples are visited Gurudevan, Mambalam Vaidyananda Swami was reading Yogavaristam, Jeevanmuktiprakaranam and as per Swami’s introduction others hlp him to sit in the position of Padmadana in his bed and Gurudevan told them to read Daivadasakam. Sreedharmatherthar Swami, Narasimhaswami, Sugunanada Swamikal, Mambalam Vaidyananda Swamikal started to read Daibadasakam, last of Daivadasakam Swami was colssed his eyes and entered to Mahasamadhi.

In 1928 September 20th Thursday Kanni 5, 1104 ME) time of 3:30pm Swami entered Mahasamadhi, and then the tiny rain drops fell to the earth as asymbol of shedding tears. Thousands of followers are come to Sivagiri with signing hearts and filled eyes.
